Thoughts And Feelings

"Who knows where thoughts come from?
They just appear."

"At that point, something will crack. The nonsuburban electorate will decide that the system has failed and start looking around for a strongman to vote for — someone willing to assure them that, once he is elected, the smug bureaucrats, tricky lawyers, overpaid bond salesmen, and postmodernist professors will no longer be calling the shots. …

One thing that is very likely to happen is that the gains made in the past 40 years by black and brown Americans, and by homosexuals, will be wiped out. Jocular contempt for women will come back into fashion. … All the resentment which badly educated Americans feel about having their manners dictated to them by college graduates will find an outlet."

-Richard Rorty in 1998

Whoa...

Is that what happened?
Maybe. Let's address the first part of his quote.

Plenty of Trump supporters have said they like him because he, "tells it like it is."
Plenty of Trump supporters have said they like him because he, "is not a politician."
I would bet the majority of them would get violently ill at the mention of a "safe space."

There are a great number of Americans who are angry. For a variety of reasons, Trump spoke to them.

A majority of the population would not be able to cover a $400 expense.
Still reeling from collapses and bailouts, while watching the middle class disappear...
I guess there's a lot of people who feel like there are issues more pressing than gender neutral bathrooms.

Trump came in pledging change.

He vowed to "Make America Great Again."
What exactly does he mean by that? That's the issue.

Is he speaking about a time where a family could live comfortably on one income?
Is he speaking about a time where we led the world in other categories besides incarcerated citizens and defense spending?

Trump said he wants to revitalize the economy and add 25 million jobs.
Trump said he wants to cut taxes across the board. Specifically for the middle class.

What will happen in reality remains to be seen.
Many people are concerned he just wants to make America "white" again.
Which leads us to the second part of the above quote.

Obviously, we hope the strides we have made as a country in regards to civil rights are not undone.

Donald Trump named Mike Pence his Vice President.
Mike Pence is against Gay marriage.
Mike Pence opposed a law to prohibit LGBT discrimination in the workplace.
Mike Pence opposed the repeal of "Don't Ask Don't Tell"
Mike Pence is in favor of conversion therapy.

Many people who identify as something other than heterosexual are scared and angry.

If I had to guess...I'm thinking Mike Pence let a young man go in his butt in college.
Mike Pence probably enjoyed it.
At that point, one of two things probably happened.
Either the young man who explored his anal cavity didn't want something serious, or Mike Pence felt guilty due to his religious leanings.

Whatever the case, Mike Pence has seemingly made it his mission to make the lives of gay people miserable.

Why did Trump choose this man to be his Vice President?
What was he thinking? What was he feeling?

We know why Muslims, and basically every non caucasian is on alert.

Does Trump want to "wipe out" the gains made by people of color over the last 40 years?
Or does he simply not know how to make a point without being offensive?
Hopefully the latter.

Will contempt for women come back into fashion?

Plenty of women are scared.
Personally, I don't think that men will start assaulting women because of Trump's "locker room talk."
Then again, I think he is a clown.

Let's tackle the final part of the quote.
I think we can all agree we've become too PC as a country.

We should be aware of people who have different religious leanings and sexual orientations.
Do people have to let one arbitrary thing identify who they are as a complete person though?

The world is constantly changing and evolving. We should aim to not offend people.
When everything is a "trigger" people are going to get fed up and not care anymore.

Freedom of speech.
You just cant say this or this or this or this or this or this or this or this or this and especially not this.

If you're deathly afraid of offending somebody you're never going to be able to connect with them.

Can I call a spade a spade without it being "shaming?"

A trophy just for existing on the planet Earth.
Who came up with this idea?
Probably the parents who named their child Grapefruit, and then wonder why he gets picked on at school.

Oh, we don't keep score?.
Oh, there are no strikeouts?

This is such a dangerous train of thought.
A second place trophy is a good thing, you know.
At what stage in life are we going to learn to deal with disappointment, failure, and defeat?

Suicide rates are gonna be through the roof!
Or is the future going to be drastically different?

Are employers going to have to hire every single person who applies?
What if the socially awkward, pimple faced kid asks out the hot cheerleader?
Is she still allowed to say no?
Can she just give him an old fashioned and be on her way?
Or does she have to marry him and have kids so the boy's feelings don't get hurt?

The long term effects of failing a Driving test!!
Gotta just give everyone a license right?
What if a child identifies as an honor student?
Gotta give him an A right?

I don't know much, but trying to pretend like life is fair....
That's not gonna end well.

"Screw your awards
My son can't eat those plaques"
-Jadakiss

Just like Al Queda Jada's son is unable to eat a Grammy...

After a hurricane, a Haitian cannot buy a loaf of bread with your prayers.
A Native American cannot stop the construction of a pipeline with your Facebook check-in.

All I have to do is write "Sending my prayers" and I don't have to do anything?
Wait. All I have to do is Like this Facebook post and that is equal to a prayer?
I don't even need to actually pray?

What a time to be alive.

DISCLAIMER: If you are praying for me...REALLY pray for me.
Do a rosary for me, light a candle, the whole 9.
